History
The Cheltenham Partnership began life in May 2002 and was formed in response to the Local Government Act of 2000 which instructed councils to work with other organisations to produce a community plan.

Cheltenham Borough Council produced a document in 2000 called Our town, our future, that was in many ways a forerunner of the community plan. It set out seven ways in which the quality of life in Cheltenham could be improved, and how the key agencies in the town would contribute to delivering these improvements.

In 2002, extensive consultation with the viewpointonethousand citizen's panel, various stakeholders, the community, and local organisations resulted in the people of Cheltenham giving their views on what they thought were the priority issues for the town.

In February 2003 the Cheltenham Partnership produced the draft for the first community plan. Over the year it was refined following further consultation and the final community plan, Our future, our choice, was published in November 2003. June 2007 saw the publication of the draft for the new community strategy, and a restructuring of the Cheltenham Strategic Partnership. Consultation on the strategy ended in September 2007, which saw the publication of the updated draft community strategy, and the final version was agreed at the full council meeting on 8th October 2007. It was launched at an event at Pittville Pump Rooms on 29th October 2007.

Structure

The Cheltenham Strategic Partnership Management Group is made up of a nominated representative from each of the six partnerships  and representatives from the six core partner organisations based in the borough.

Vision

"We want Cheltenham to stand for a sustainable quality of life, where people, families, their communities and businesses thrive; and in a way which cherishes our cultural heritage and does not compromise the quality of life of present and future generations."

Aims

The aims of the CSP are:

·       To be the partnership of partnerships for Cheltenham, providing strategic co-ordination, ensuring linkages with other plans and bodies established at the regional, sub-regional and local level and agreeing a community strategy that sets the vision and priorities for the area and gaining consensus about the way forward.

·       To develop and drive the effective delivery of the community strategy action plan through effective performance management and holding delivery partners and partnerships to account.
